Partner’s In Climb

When we see trail running videos, they’re usually about how athletes train for and then reach their running goals. It’s not often that we get a glimpse into the day-to-day routine of elite runners, and even less often that we see what their lives look like in the context of family.

We usually see on the videos to athletes prepare and train for their big challenge and then usually achieving those goals, but is not that often that we get a glimpse into the day to day routine of elite trail runners and less often that we see it in the context of family and couple’s living this different lifestyle in pursuit of this wild dreams.

The Skyrunning series of races has brought us this video about about Skyrunners’ lives, and how their relationship with their significant other plays a key role in their pursuit of happiness–which usually involves training and running around different mountains all year round. We leave you with this video about the Albon family and the Debats/Aurell family, which is definitely worth a watch if you want to see how these couples live their lives around their love for the mountains.

You can watch the video here.

Bucking The Trends with Megan Kimmel

We’ve talked before about how outdoor activities can be the spark that empowers people to achieve things that they thought were impossible. In this video, we see the famous U.S. trail runner Megan Kimmel travel to Afghanistan to help train a group of women to try–for the first time–to summit the highest peak in the country. Totally inspiring to see how love for the outdoors inspires these women to prepare for this challenge despite the adversity they face in their day to day lives.

Katie Schide

Katie has been running for a while now, but she flew under the radar for most of her races–that is, up until she finished 6th place in her debut 100 miles at this year’s UTMB. She’s an American runner who lives in Europe, and embraces the “Euro” racing style and terrain (and she’s rocking it.)  We leave you with a video which recaps her UTMB race, and another video about an FKT she did a couple of months ago in a range of mountains on the East Coast–a place she calls her second home.

You can watch the UTMB video here and the FKT video here.

WHAT INSPIRED US THIS WEEK

What to hear:

I bet you’ve heard about Kara Goucher, right? She’s been on the running scene for a while now, having had amazing performances in road races and even qualifying for the Olympics. This year, Kara decided to try out a trail race for the first time–and it wasn’t a cakewalk. We leave you with this podcast about her thoughts about trail running as a new sport for her, how she trains (on her way to her first 50k) and her thoughts on being an ambassador for running as a sport.

You can hear the podcast here.

What to watch:

A few weeks ago, we talked about the Scotland Skyline series of races and the beauty of the races’ landscape. We leave you with this (long) video about the highlights of one of the races in the series (The Ring of Steall) which also happens to be the last race in the Golden Trail Series (before the great finale in Nepal in a few weeks.) Beside getting to see some amazing shots of the race, the video gives you a recap of the all the races of the series so far, and who will be the top ten women and men traveling to the final.

You can watch the video here.
