Vert Beats: Black Runners Matter

Black Runners Matter

Like many around the world, the three of us behind Vert.run have been profoundly disturbed by–and then looked very much inward after–the recent killings of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and George Floyd.

For those of us who are non-Black runners, including the three of us behind Vert.run, we’ve got a lot of work to do. Right now, it is time to: 1.) listen and educate ourselves with intention, 2.) use our platforms to elevate the voices of Black runners, especially in the running and trail running world, and 3.) to make a long-term plan of action for how we will become real, lifelong allies moving forward.

Below is a list of the voices in the Black running community from whom we have been learning–and to whom we’ve been donating–this week. We encourage you to better educate yourself alongside us, and to build a long-term plan for becoming an ally.

WHAT INSPIRED US THIS WEEK

What to do this weekend:

This Saturday would have been the 4th race of the Skyrunner World Series with the “Hochkönig Skyrace” in Austria, but as we all know, the series has been put on hold because of the pandemic. The good side of this is that now everybody has the chance to be a part of the Skyrunning community by joining the Skyrunner Virtual Race series.

You can sign up for the virtual race here, and you can join our free Skyrunner Virtual Series training plan here.
